East European University (EEU) is a private institution founded in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 2012, that has become a popular choice for international medical students, including many from India. The university is recognized by several international medical bodies and offers English-medium programs, a factor that attracts many international applicants. 

Programs for international students

EEU offers a range of programs in its Faculty of Healthcare Sciences. 

  • Medical Doctor (MD): The six-year program, which is equivalent to an MBBS, includes five years of academic study and a one-year clinical internship.
  • Curriculum: The syllabus follows international standards and is taught completely in English. 

Recognition and FMGE performance

  • International recognition: EEU is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India, and other bodies like the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). This makes graduates eligible to appear for licensing exams like the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) in India.
  • FMGE pass rate: According to data from 2024, the FMGE pass rate among Indian graduates from EEU was 22.95%. 

Admission requirements for Indian students

  • Age: Applicants must be 17 years or older by December 31 of the admission year.
  • Academics: Completion of 10+2 with a science background (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) is required. A minimum of 50% aggregate marks is needed for the general category, and 40% is sufficient for reserved categories.
  • NEET: A qualifying score on the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) is mandatory for Indian applicants.
  • No entrance exam: No separate entrance exam, like IELTS or TOEFL, is required for admission.

  • Tuition fees: The annual tuition fee for the MBBS program is approximately $5,500 USD.
  • Hostel facilities: EEU provides on-campus hostel facilities for international students, which are mandatory for the first and second years.
  • Indian mess: Indian food is available in the hostel mess.
  • Other amenities: The university also has a cafeteria, library, gym, and other facilities.
