Bukhara State Medical Institute

Established in 1990, the Bukhara State Medical Institute (BSMI), named after the medieval Persian physician Abu Ali ibn Sino (Avicenna), is a prominent public medical university in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. It is a popular destination for international students, especially from India, due to its affordable tuition, English-medium instruction, and global recognition. A modern, new campus was also opened in 2023.

Academic programs and faculties

BSMI offers a range of medical programs, including undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The medium of instruction is available in Uzbek, Russian, English, and Turkish.

Student life and facilities

Admission for international students

  • Eligibility: International students must meet specific criteria, which generally include:
    • Completing secondary education with a minimum aggregate score (e.g., 50% for Indian students) in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
    • Qualifying the NEET exam (mandatory for Indian students).
    • Being at least 17 years old by December 31 of the admission year.
  • Application process: The application procedure involves submitting academic documents, a passport, and the NEET score, often through an authorized admissions agent.
